Elaine's Spiced Lamb Meatballs

This is my sis Elaine's recipe for spiced lamb meatballs that she brought over for our Indian food fest on Labor Day weekend. A really delicious appetizer that pairs well with mango and/or cilantro chutney.

Clockwise, right to left: spiced lamb meatballs, samosa croquettes, cilantro chutney, and mango chutney (all recipes are under the 'Indian" food index).

Ingredients:
1 lb. ground lamb
1 tsp. minced ginger
5 cloves garlic, minced
1-2 serrano chiles, chopped
1/2 onion, minced
1 tbsp. fresh mint, chopped
1 tbsp. fresh cilantro, chopped
1 tsp. turmeric
1 tsp. garam masala
Salt, to taste
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1 egg

1. Preheat oven to 350F.

2. Place ginger, garlic and serranos in a mortar and pestle and combine into a paste. Set aside.

3. Saute onions in a little bit of vegetable oil until tender. Add the ginger-garlic-serrano paste, stir, and let cool.

4. Mix all the remaining ingredients into the veggie mixture and shape into 1 1/2" balls. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until done. Can be served as is or with your favorite chutney on the side. Excellent whether hot or at room temperature.

Awesome recipe, EE!
